Product review: Kali Protectives Avana AM helmet
Avana. First impressions were that this was a pretty cool looking helmet!
I recently received a new helmet courtesy of Kali Protectives. I was looking for a new All Mountain type of helmet for my enduro style of riding/racing so I ordered up the I decided to take this one with me on a trip to ride White Clay in Delaware. A nice 14 mile ride on this terrain would be perfect for testing out any kind of gear. Long climbs and fast descents on some twisty turns get you moving in all kinds of positions. I like to see how gear like a helmet acts in conditions like this. I was on the bike for a total of 3 hours, 2 hours moving time so I had the helmet on my head for quite a while.
The fit of this helmet is unique, most helmets are comprised of the dense polycarbonate base with a foam liner of sorts to complete the fit between you and the shell. The helmet liner in the Avana is a mix of a mesh basket with foam bits. The helmet offers the right amount of control to get it snug. I felt like this helmet provided the protection that it was designed to give, was comfortable and didn’t get in the way of my ride. If a helmet isn’t comfortable it will start to nag at you after awhile on the bike, I never felt like that during the 3 hours wearing the Avana. You can find out more about the Avana and other helmets at the Kali Protectives website.
